Description

A comforting sweet potato casserole with a smooth, sweet mash base and a crisp, buttery pecan streusel topping. Perfect for holidays or cozy family dinners.


Ingredients

For the Mashed Sweet Potatoes:

4 large sweet potatoes

½ cup granulated sugar

1 tsp kosher salt

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 large eggs

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Streusel Topping:

1 cup light brown sugar, packed

½ cup all-purpose flour

1 cup chopped pecans

½ cup unsalted butter, melted


Instructions

  1. Cook sweet potatoes by boiling, baking, or microwaving until soft. Let cool slightly, then peel and mash.
  2. Preheat oven to 375 °F (190 °C) and grease a 2-quart baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, beat mashed sweet potatoes, granulated sugar, salt, vanilla, eggs, and melted butter with a mixer for 4–5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Spread mixture into the prepared dish and bake for 25 minutes until heated through.
  5. Meanwhile, mix brown sugar, flour, pecans, and melted butter in a small bowl until crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle topping evenly over casserole and bake another 10–15 minutes until topping is golden and crisp.
  7. Let set briefly and serve warm. Cover with foil if holding before serving.

  • Add cinnamon or nutmeg to the mash for a spiced twist.
  • Use marshmallows, oats, or maple syrup for topping variation.
