Description
Homestyle Potato Chips are crispy, golden, and irresistibly crunchy. Made with just potatoes, oil, and salt, these homemade chips are fresher and more customizable than store-bought. Perfect for snacking, parties, or serving alongside sandwiches and burgers.
Ingredients
4 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced paper-thin
3 tbsp salt, plus more to taste
1 quart oil, for deep frying
Instructions
- Slice potatoes paper-thin and place them in a large bowl of cold water as you work.
 - Drain, rinse under cold water, then refill the bowl with fresh water and 3 tbsp salt. Soak for at least 30 minutes.
 - Drain again, rinse, and pat slices thoroughly dry with paper towels.
 - Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 365°F (185°C).
 - Working in small batches, fry potato slices until golden and crisp. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
 - Season with extra salt to taste. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes
- Use a mandoline slicer for evenly thin slices.
 - Soaking potatoes removes starch for crispier chips.
 - Season immediately while chips are warm so flavors stick.
 - Try spice blends, cheese, or herbs for different flavors.
 - For a lighter version, use an air fryer instead of deep frying.
