Description
This homemade fig jam is a sweet and fragrant treat that’s perfect for spreading on toast, topping desserts, or enjoying with cheese. With just a few simple ingredients—fresh figs, sugar, lemon, and cinnamon—you can make this delicious jam that’s perfect for enjoying year-round. It’s easy to make, and the natural sweetness of the figs shines through in every bite.
Ingredients
4 cups fresh figs, chopped
2 cups granulated sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- Combine ingredients: In a large saucepan, combine the chopped figs, granulated sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Stir to combine.
- Cook the jam: Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring frequently, until the sugar dissolves. Once the sugar is dissolved, bring the mixture to a boil.
- Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 40-45 minutes, or until the jam thickens and reaches a spreadable consistency. Keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t burn.
- Add cinnamon (optional): If using ground cinnamon, add it during the last 5 minutes of cooking. Stir to incorporate.
- Cool and jar the jam: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the jam cool slightly. Once cooled, transfer the jam to sterilized jars. Seal the jars and refrigerate.
- Let it set: Allow the jam to set for at least 24 hours in the fridge before serving, so the flavors meld together and the texture solidifies.
