Ingredients
Fish
- 4 7-oz Steelhead trout fillets
Butter Sauce
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp Lemon juice
- 1 tbsp Fresh parsley (chopped)
- 1 tbsp Fresh chives (chopped)
- 1 tsp Sea salt
- 1/4 tsp Black pepper
- Lemon slices (thinly sliced, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (204 degrees C) to ensure it’s ready to bake the trout fillets evenly and thoroughly.
- Prepare Trout: Pat the trout fillets dry using paper towels to remove excess moisture. Arrange the fillets in a large baking dish, spacing them apart to allow even cooking.
- Make Lemon Butter Sauce: Melt the butter in a small bowl using the microwave or in a saucepan on the stovetop. Remove from heat and whisk in olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, fresh parsley, chives, sea salt, and black pepper to form a flavorful lemon garlic butter sauce.
- Brush Trout: Generously brush both sides of each trout fillet with the lemon butter mixture, coating them evenly to infuse flavor and help keep the fish moist during baking.
- Add Lemon Slices: Optionally top each trout fillet with a thin lemon slice for an attractive presentation and a burst of citrus aroma while baking.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake the trout for 12-18 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 135-140 degrees F (57-60 degrees C), and the fish flakes easily with a fork, indicating it’s perfectly cooked.
Notes
- Do not overcook the trout to maintain its moist and tender texture.
- If you prefer, fresh herbs can be substituted or combined, such as dill or thyme, for varied flavor.
- Lemon slices are optional but add brightness and make for beautiful plating.
- Use a food thermometer to ensure the fish reaches the safe internal temperature of 135-140°F.
- Leftover trout can be refrigerated and warmed gently for best results.
