Description

This Easy Focaccia Bread recipe yields soft, airy bread with a golden, crispy crust, making it the perfect side dish or snack. Flavored with fresh rosemary and olive oil, it’s simple to make and ideal for pairing with soups, dipping in olive oil, or using as sandwich bread. A homemade focaccia that’s both delicious and easy to prepare!

Ingredients

4 cups (500g) bread flour or all-purpose flour

2 ¼ teaspoons (7g) active dry yeast or instant yeast

2 teaspoons (10g) salt

1 ¾ cups (415ml) warm water

¼ cup (60ml) extra virgin olive oil, plus extra for drizzling

2 tablespoons fresh rosemary leaves

Coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  • Mixing and Kneading the Dough: Combine flour, salt, and yeast in a large bowl. Add warm water and olive oil, mixing until a shaggy dough forms. Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  • First Rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.

  • Shaping and Dimpling the Focaccia: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a baking sheet with olive oil, stretch dough to fit the pan, and create dimples with your fingertips.

  • Second Rise: Let dough rise for another 30 minutes.

  • Topping and Baking: Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with rosemary and sea salt. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden.

  • Serve: Cool slightly, cut into squares or rectangles, and serve warm.

Notes

Garlic Focaccia: Add minced garlic to the dough or top before baking for a garlic-infused version.

Cheese Focaccia: Sprinkle parmesan or mozzarella on top before baking for a cheesy twist.

Herb Variations: Try thyme, basil, or oregano for different flavor profiles.
