Description

Crab and Shrimp Seafood Bisque is a rich, creamy, and highly seasoned soup featuring tender crab meat and succulent shrimp. This bisque, typically found in fine dining, can now be made easily at home with simple ingredients, offering a luxurious seafood experience that is both comforting and delicious.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp. Butter
  • C. Celery, chopped
  • C. Green onions, chopped
  • 1 ½ C. Heavy whipping cream
  • 2 C. Whole milk
  • 3 Tbsp. Flour
  • 1 Tbsp. Tomato paste
  • 8 oz. Cooked shrimp, cut into pieces
  • 8 oz. Crab meat
  • 1 tsp. Old Bay seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt Butter: Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat on the stove, creating a flavorful base for the bisque.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Add the chopped celery and green onions to the melted butter and sauté until they are beginning to soften, releasing their aromas.
  3. Add Flour: Stir in the flour and continue to sauté for another minute to cook out the raw flour taste and create a roux for thickening.
  4. Heat Milk and Combine: Warm the whole milk in the microwave until warm, then slowly pour it into the saucepan while whisking continuously to eliminate lumps and ensure a smooth mixture.
  5. Add Cream and Seasonings: Whisk in the heavy whipping cream, tomato paste, Old Bay seasoning, and add salt and pepper to taste, infusing the bisque with flavor and richness.
  6. Simmer Bisque: Bring the mixture to a low simmer and continue cooking, stirring occasionally until the bisque thickens to a creamy consistency.
  7. Incorporate Seafood: Stir in the cooked shrimp and crab meat, cooking just until heated through to keep the seafood tender and flavorful.
  8. Serve and Garnish: Serve the bisque hot, topped with fresh parsley for a pop of color and fresh herbal aroma.

Notes

  • Use fresh seafood whenever possible for the best flavor.
  • Adjust the thickness of the bisque by adding more or less flour.
  • Old Bay seasoning is key for authentic seafood flavor—do not omit.
  • For a smoother bisque, strain before adding seafood if desired.
  • Serve with crusty bread or oyster crackers for a complete meal.
