Ingredients

For the roasted garlic:

810 garlic cloves, peeled

2 tablespoons olive oil

Pinch of salt

For the garlic butter custard:

Roasted garlic from above

½ cup butter, melted

1 egg

¼ cup milk

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon paprika

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

For the bread:

12 King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sheet Rolls (or substitute with a French baguette)

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Chopped parsley and chili flakes for garnish


Instructions

  • Roast the Garlic: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Toss garlic with olive oil and salt, roast for 20 minutes until golden. Mash and set aside.

  • Make the Garlic Butter Custard: Whisk together roasted garlic, melted butter, egg, milk, salt, paprika, and parsley until smooth.

  • Prepare the Bread: Slice the rolls and bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes until golden.

  • Coat in Custard: Dip the baked bread into the garlic butter custard, ensuring it’s well coated.

  • Bake and Broil: Return bread to the sheet, bake for 15-18 minutes, then broil for 5 minutes until golden and bubbly.

 

  • Garnish and Serve: Top with mozzarella cheese, broil, then garnish with parsley and chili flakes. Serve warm.
