These Baked Cinnamon-Sugar Donuts are a delightful homemade treat that combines a soft, fluffy texture with a sweet cinnamon-sugar coating. Baked in the oven rather than fried, they offer a lighter, less oily alternative to traditional donuts without sacrificing flavor. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a comforting snack, these donuts are easy to prepare and yield a dozen delicious servings.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups (260 gr) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (100 gr) sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup (235 ml) whole milk
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
Topping
- 1/2 cup (100 gr) sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoon (30 gr) unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease or spray two donut pans, which will yield 12 donuts altogether.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon until evenly combined.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the whole milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract thoroughly until smooth.
- Make the Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined; avoid overmixing to keep the donuts tender.
- Fill the Donut Pans: Spoon the batter into the prepared pans, filling each cavity about three-quarters full. Alternatively, pour the batter into a piping bag or ziplock bag with a corner cut off for easier filling.
- Bake: Bake the donuts in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the donuts are lightly golden.
- Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Coating: While the donuts bake, mix together the sugar and ground cinnamon on a plate. Melt the unsalted butter and set aside.
- Coat the Donuts: Once baked, remove the donuts from the pans. Brush each donut lightly with melted butter, then dip and roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat evenly on all sides.
- Serve and Enjoy: Allow the donuts to cool slightly and serve fresh for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- For a dairy-free version, substitute whole milk with almond or oat milk and use a plant-based butter alternative.
- Ensure not to overmix the batter to keep the donuts light and fluffy.
- Donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- If you don’t have donut pans, you can use a muffin pan but the shape will be different.
- To add a twist, try adding a pinch of nutmeg or substituting cinnamon with pumpkin spice in the topping.
