Description

This Amish Apple Fritter Bread is a moist, warmly spiced loaf bursting with tender apple chunks and topped with a sweet vanilla glaze—like apple fritters, but in bread form. Perfect for breakfast treats, coffee breaks, or cozy dessert moments.

Ingredients

2 medium baking apples, peeled and chopped

½ cup light brown sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground ginger

1 large egg, room temperature

⅓ cup granulated sugar

¼ cup vegetable oil

¼ cup full-fat sour cream, room temperature

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon kosher salt

1 cup powdered sugar, sifted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan.
  2. Toss apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and ginger. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk egg, granulated sugar, oil, sour cream, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. Fold into wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Fold three-quarters of the apple mixture into batter. Pour into loaf pan. Sprinkle remaining apples on top.
  6. Bake for 50–55 minutes, or until a thermometer reads 200°F (93°C) in the center.
  7. Cool for at least 30 minutes in the pan before removing.
  8. Whisk powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk into a glaze. Pour over cooled loaf before serving.

Notes

  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts for texture.
  • Substitute pears or cranberries for apples.
  • Use pumpkin pie spice instead of cinnamon and ginger.
  • Replace glaze with cream cheese frosting for richness.
  • Tent with foil if the loaf browns too quickly.
