Description
This Amish Apple Fritter Bread is a moist, warmly spiced loaf bursting with tender apple chunks and topped with a sweet vanilla glaze—like apple fritters, but in bread form. Perfect for breakfast treats, coffee breaks, or cozy dessert moments.
Ingredients
2 medium baking apples, peeled and chopped
½ cup light brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 large egg, room temperature
⅓ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup vegetable oil
¼ cup full-fat sour cream, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan.
- Toss apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and ginger. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk egg, granulated sugar, oil, sour cream, and vanilla until smooth.
- In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. Fold into wet mixture until just combined.
- Fold three-quarters of the apple mixture into batter. Pour into loaf pan. Sprinkle remaining apples on top.
- Bake for 50–55 minutes, or until a thermometer reads 200°F (93°C) in the center.
- Cool for at least 30 minutes in the pan before removing.
- Whisk powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk into a glaze. Pour over cooled loaf before serving.
Notes
- Add chopped pecans or walnuts for texture.
- Substitute pears or cranberries for apples.
- Use pumpkin pie spice instead of cinnamon and ginger.
- Replace glaze with cream cheese frosting for richness.
- Tent with foil if the loaf browns too quickly.
